Time Out Market New York, a bi-level cultural hub set on the East River waterfront, is coming to DUMBO, in Brooklyn, this spring. Its debut follows that of Time Out Market Lisbon, which opened in 2014 and saw 3.6 million visitors in 2017, and kicks off a global expansion of the concept with other markets in Miami, Boston, Chicago and Montreal set to open later this year. Here’s what we know so far:

There will be 21 unique culinary concepts

11 of the 21 food offerings have been announced, and the space will also have three bars. It’s a diverse list spanning a range of cuisines, including Italian, Japanese, Mediterranean and Mexican. The lineup is described in a release as “a curated mix of the city’s award-winning chefs, the restaurants foodies can’t get enough of and much loved talent shaping New York’s culinary future.” The 11 announced concepts include Juliana’s, a top-rated pizza spot from New York pizza legend Patsy Grimaldi; Alta Calidad, a Michelin Bib Gourmand serving Indian-influenced Mexican cuisine; and DŌ, the raw cookie dough shop that sparked a national trend. The full lineup is as follows:

Juliana’s Pizza

Reserve Cut

Alta Calidad

Miss Ada

Bessou

Clinton St. Baking Company & Restaurant

Mermaid Oyster Bar

FELICE

Jacob’s Pickles

DŌ, Cookie Dough Confections

Avocaderia

Visitors will be dining with fine china and flatware

In an upscale twist to your typical food hall, market fare will be served on china and drinks will come in glasses. Dining will still take place at communal tables, in true food hall form. “Time Out Market is all about making fine dining casual, and casual extraordinary,” said Didier Souillat, CEO of Time Out Market. “We call it the democratization of fine dining.”

It’s not just about the food

While food is a big draw, Time Out Market New York –– described as a “food and cultural market” –– will offer a variety of cultural experiences in addition to a curated culinary lineup. The team is still actively working on this aspect and hasn’t confirmed many details yet, but Souillat noted, “We plan to bring to life on this stage cultural experiences such as live music (with a focus on local bands), stand-up comedy, talks and interviews (mostly culture related), food and drinks masterclasses, live culture podcast recordings and more. All curated and activated by our Time Out editorial team.”
